In this passage, we read about the good guys—the sheep and the brothers. But bad guys are also mentioned—the goats. Let’s unpack what is going on here.

The nations mentioned in Matthew 25:31-46 are in two categorizes—the sheep and the goats, representing the saved and the lost among the Gentiles. According to Matthew 25:32, the intermingled Gentiles require separation by a special judgment. The basis of this judgment is how they treat Christ’s “brothers” during the tribulation period.

Who are the brothers? I believe they are the 144,000 Jews mentioned in Revelation 7, Christ’s Jewish brothers who bear witness of Him during the tribulation. These Jewish evangelists will find it difficult to buy food because they refused to receive the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:16-17). Only true believers in the Lord will jeopardize their lives by extending hospitality to these Jewish messengers. These sheep (believers) who treat the 144,000 brothers well will enter Christ’s millennial kingdom. The goats—unbelievers who refused help to the 144,000—will go into eternal punishment.

Conclusion

Like all good dramas, the good guys win at the end of this divine redemption story. The bad guys get what is coming to them. This will become even clearer as we examine the WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY of Bible prophecy. In the next chapter, we will begin our discussion of the WHAT and WHEN. We will cover a great deal of ground, and it will be fascinating!

The Big Ideas

•Jesus is the heart of Bible prophecy. He will come for Christians at the rapture, judge Christians in heaven, inflict judgments during the tribulation, return at the second coming, judge the nations, set up the millennial kingdom, and preside over the great white throne judgment.

•The 144,000 Jewish evangelists will spread the gospel of the kingdom worldwide during the tribulation period.

•God’s two mighty prophets will engage in miracles similar to those of Moses and Elijah, pointing to the one true God.

•A great multitude of believers will be the fruit of the labors of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists and God’s two mighty prophets.

•The redeemed remnant of Jews will turn to Christ at the end of the tribulation period, after which Christ will return and rescue them from the forces of the antichrist.

•The “sheep” (saved Gentiles) will minister to the needs of Christ’s “brothers” (the 144,000 Jews) during the tribulation. The sheep will be invited into Christ’s millennial kingdom. The “goats” (unsaved Gentiles) will be excluded from the kingdom.
